Dog Tribute Plaques are Available Again!
In order to raise money for the purchase of supplies that are necessary for the upkeep of the dog park, we are producing dog tribute plaques again. You can see the plaques lining the walkway in the main gathering area. Each plaque is being handmade by one of our more talented volunteers. The production of the plaques will continue through the summer, and orders must be received by August 31st.
Plaques come in two forms: In Honor of ______, or In Memory of _______. Plaques are $25 each, and only one name can be placed on a plaque. Checks should be made payable to JAWITP. Be sure to include the spelling of the dog's name and specify which of the two plaques you want.
To place an order for a plaque, you may send a donation of $25 (per plaque) to:

Transfer of Brook Run Means Bad News for the Dog Park
The Brook Run facility no longer belongs to DeKalb County. The 102 acre park land (including the dog park) has been transferred to the City of Dunwoody. Unfortunately, Dunwoody does not yet have a Parks Dept., so we're on our own for the time being.
Up until now, the dog park has received poop bags, rubber gloves, and large trash can liners for free from the DeKalb Co. Parks Maintenance Dept. But those days are over. Poop bags and other necessary supplies will have to be purchased by Just a Walk in the Park (JAWITP), so your donations are more important than ever.
Any donation will help. Please give to JAWITP to help us keep poop bags available, as well as trash can liners and rubber gloves.
Donations may be made via PayPal just by clicking a button on many of the pages of this website.
Checks may also be made out to JAWITP and mailed to:

Please help the dog park volunteers to keep the park clean and safe for all the dogs who love it so.

New Water Barrel Now Installed at Stan's Spot
On Wednesday, April 21, JAWITP volunteers installed a new water barrel up in the back of the park in the seating section known as Stan's Spot.
Visitors are asked to help protect this new investment:
- Turn the faucet only 180 degrees (just half a circle)! The faucet is either ON or it's OFF; the volume of water does not change. Trying to turn it 360 degrees will break the faucet, we'll lose water and the entire barrel, and the dogs will suffer.
Please be sure to turn the faucet securely OFF so we don't lose water.
- Do NOT allow children to touch the barrel or the faucet. This barrel is not a toy; it is a vital piece of equipment purchased with your donations.

| James prepares to drag 100 ft. of hose across the park to fill the water barrel. What a lovely setting for dogs and humans! |

|
 |
| Please be careful when turning water on and off! |
|
| When adding water to the buckets, please be careful with the faucet!
Turn it only half a circle (180 degrees), not a full circle. The faucet is either ON or it's OFF; the amount of water coming out will not increase just because you turn the faucet all the way around.
If the faucet breaks, we'll lose the barrel and all the water.
For the sake of the dogs (and the donations made by you), please treat the water barrels gently.

| Four New Poop Bag Dispensers Donated to the Park!
Thanks to the generosity of Abacus Property Management, Inc., our dog park now has five additional poop bag dispensers. Volunteers have mounted four of the new dispensers:
- in the parking lot (finally!)
- on the fence near the seating area beside the ditch
- adjacent to the water station in the main gathering area
- up at Stan's Spot
We are hopeful that greater accessibility of poop bags will encourage visitors to pick up after the dogs. (Hint, hint!) And we're saving the fifth dispenser until we determine where it is most needed.
The bags in the new
dispensers are quite an improvement over the roll-type bags found in the
dispensers near the gates. The new bags are dispensed one-at-a-time,
which should reduce the number of unused bags often found lying around the park.
The new bags are also larger than the roll-type bags.
Please be aware
that the bags that go into these new dispensers are not provided by
DeKalb Co., as are the roll-type bags by the
gates. These new bags must be purchased by JAWITP. Your donations will be needed to continue providing the poop bags for
the new dispensers.
Thank you to the JAWITP members who helped mount the dispensers around the park:
- Metro's dad, James H.
- Buck's dad, Logan A.
- Dixie's dad, David
- Gumbo and Okra's mom, Yosafa D.
- Macy's mom and Rocky and Marley's nanny, Naomi H.
- Bodhi's mom, Ariane G.

SAVE YOUR PET, SAVE YOUR MONEY, HELP HOMELESS ANIMALS AT THE SAME TIME
Please check out the website for PAWS-Atlanta (formerly the DeKalb Co. Humane Society). They offer tremendous savings on all shots, neutering/spaying, and microchipping. Visit PAWSATLANTA.COM for more information.
Just to give you some idea of the savings:
- Microchipping = $25
- DHLP/Parvo/Corona virus/Bordatella/Rabies shot = $45
Compare these prices with the cost of the same treatments at a veterinarian's office. They offer a special day for vaccinations twice a month. No appointment required (so you will have to wait). No checks accepted, and no bills over $20, but credit cards are accepted.
