May's Clean-Up Day Postponed to Saturday, July 31st 9:00 a.m.
- Volunteers should meet at the park at 9:00 Saturday morning, July 31st.
(NOTE: We are changing to our Summertime schedule to avoid the heat. Gather at 9, not at 10!)
- We will provide rubber gloves and trash bags. Volunteers simply walk through the entire park and pick up all the stray poop, dead tennis balls, and humans' trash we can find.
- Yes, you may bring your dog along. (The dogs are no help, but they're welcome
anyway.)
The entire clean-up takes less than 40 minutes, typically, so if you really want to help, please be on time.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR BUCKET DUTY!
Volunteers are always needed to take monthly Bucket Duty. Bucket Duty volunteers simply promise to visit the park once a week for a whole month and swap out two dirty water buckets for two clean ones on each visit.
Keeping the water buckets clean is vital to the safety and well-being off all our dogs, so it is an important task.
The current month's volunteer will bring in two clean buckets on Clean-Up Day. The two dirty buckets will be left behind the tool shed. The volunteer for the next month will pick up the dirty buckets, take them home to clean them, and continue the swap each week until the month ends.
To volunteer for one month of Bucket Duty, simply contact JAWITP by clicking on the link at the bottom of each page of this website.

Hey, are you a good photographer?
We would like to have photos that can show people what the park is like, but it's not easy because the park is so darn big.
If you have good shots, or if you can volunteer to take some for us, please let us know.
And if you can help make a video tour of the park, we'd be thrilled!
You can contact us at info@brookrundogpark.com.

Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, for animals who are suffering; for animals who are over-worked, underfed, and cruelly treated; for all wistful creatures in captivity who beat their wings against bars; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to death. We entreat for them all thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them, we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kind words. Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals, and so to share the blessings of the merciful.
Prayer by Dr. Albert Schweitzer Clergyman, humanitarian, philosopher

Voluntary Efforts are Always Appreciated and Needed There are many ways you can pitch in to show your appreciation and support:
Volunteers are invited to join us on the last Saturday of each month when we gather to clean up the park. Volunteers are provided with rubber gloves and large trash bags, and we simply walk through the entire park, picking up stray poop, tennis balls, and human trash.
We do not typically close the park during clean-ups, and volunteers are invited to bring their dogs along.
Announcements about Clean-Up Day are always found on our website, and signs are posed at the park, as well. (NOTE: Because of the holidays and the heavy leaf coverage, we typically skip the months of November and December.)
Because our park does not have a water source, JAWITP purchased four large galvanized buckets, and visitors bring in jugs of water to share with all the dogs. JAWITP volunteers take turns making sure that the two dirty buckets are swapped out for two clean ones on a weekly basis. Bucket Patrol volunteers must see to it that the buckets are swapped out at least once a week for one month. Just contact JAWITP to sign up for a month of Bucket Patrol.
Like any volunteer group, we need donations of money as well as donations of time and physical labor.
- Anyone who owns lawn furniture that would be suitable for a dog park is encouraged to contact JAWITP via our website to ensure the donated furniture will be acceptable for our needs. (Seriously, some furniture items can be risky for our dogs.)
- We can also use more trash cans throughout the park. However, we have certain requirements for trash cans, so please contact us for specifics.
- Also on our website are directions for making cash donations to the park. We will soon need to pay for the subscription to our website; that single item costs us close to $200 each year.
JAWITP provides trash cans throughout the park so visitors can easily dispose of dog poop, water jugs, and trash.
- POOP CANS
Just inside the main entrance to the dog park, there is a large, lidded trash can located under the poop bag dispenser. That can should be used for the bags of poop. That can is emptied three days a week by DeKalb Co. workers (and by us volunteers every single day).
- TRASH and RECYCLING CANS
JAWITP members have also donated several large, lidded trash cans to help keep the park clean and neat. In the main seating area, behind the water station, we have a gray can for humans' trash; we also have another (yellow) can to collect and recycle the many plastic jugs visitors bring in for water.
In the seating area known as Stan's Spot, there is a black trash can for poop or for human trash. Empty water jugs, however, should be deposited in the yellow recycling can in the main seating area.
JAWITP members are encouraged to keep an eye on park visitors and ensure that dog poop doesn't get deposited in either of those cans. Those particular cans are our property, not DeKalb County's, so county workers do not enter the park to empty those cans; we do it ourselves. If visitors use those cans for dog poop, the stench will drive us all out! If you see that any can is full, you will find extra bags underneath the full bag. Full bags should be taken out to the parking lot and deposited in or near the large, lidded garbage there.
As members of JAWITP and, thus, managers of the dog park, it is vital that we obey the county's rules. Between the parking lot and the main entrance, there are two signs stating the rules of the park. It's surprising how many people walk right past and never notice the rules, so there are occasional infringements.
- The most crucial issue is poop pick-up. As the number of visitors to the park increases dramatically each year, there is way too much poop being left on the ground. Dogs step in poop, then lick their paws later, and there are hundreds of diseases that can be transmitted that way. Park visitors can help out by being observant and letting other dog owners know when and where their dogs are making a mess. And if you see poop, please pick it up and dispose of it properly, even if it's not your dog's!
- The second most critical rule is no food inside the park; this includes dog treats. It also
means no food inside the fence. Having treats or any food item in
your pocket is not acceptable.
Food is highly risky among
off-leash dogs where it can easily start fights. And a surprising number
of dogs have allergies and dietary restrictions, so food of any sort is
absolutely not allowed. (Frankly, we don't argue with visitors who
bring in their coffee or water. Although drinks are prohibited, we're
pretty sure that water and coffee will probably not start a dog fight,
and of course, alcohol is forbidden in any public park. Smoking is also
forbidden, but we pick up cigarette butts all the time. Cigarette butts
can be toxic to dogs, especially smaller ones. Smoking is allowed
outside the fence, however.)
If you see a problem in the park, call 911. The Dunwoody police are very supportive of our dog park.
We always appreciate folks who help maintain this excellent dog park!
