| Have you ever noticed that there's something new at the park almost every time you come in?
- Like the gravel areas for dog play and others for covering mud pits?
- Like the fact that more landscaping timbers with dog tribute plaques have appeared?
- And you rarely ever find that the poop cans or the trash cans or the recycling cans are overflowing?
- And even if there are no black poop bags in the dispensers, there are small rolls of green poop bags hanging all along the fence-line?
Those efforts are NOT done by DeKalb Co. workers.
Almost all the work done to maintain and improve the dog park is done by volunteers, people who visit the park and appreciate its value to the dogs and to the community. Frankly, the most work gets done on weekdays, when the park is a bit more quiet. We often need help, no matter how much or how little.
There are many people who only visit the park on weekends. Those pesky day jobs sure can interfere with dog park maintenance! If you cannot help out with manual labor during the week, we can always use financial donations. Donations may be made using the PayPal buttons on many pages of this website.
We also need volunteers for Bucket Duty. If you can visit the dog park once a week for a whole month, you can be a big help! Please click on the website page called About Volunteers for details.

| Sometimes, when volunteers are working in the park, other people step up and pitch in. Logan, for example, was just enjoying some time playing fetch with Buck, but he volunteered to carry heavy landscaping timbers into position. |

The Infamous Mud Fields are Going Away!
The historic rains of 2009-2010, plus the occasional snow day, made large sections of the park a horrible mess. Dogs were getting so filthy, and humans found a walk around the park to be quite a challenge.
Thanks to the DeKalb Co. Parks Maintenance Dept., we were given access to tons of crushed gravel.
Thanks to dog park volunteers, the mud fields are diminishing. Special thanks to James H., who drove over to the site of the gravel, loaded his truck with gravel over and over, day after day, then drove his truck into the park. From there, James, Laine, Naomi, Yosafa, Ariane, Theresa, David, Tanner, and anyone else who volunteered to pick up a shovel spread that gravel across the various mud fields.
The improvement is remarkable!
| Our first project was the huge muddy area adjacent to the drainage ditch. The mud was so thick that visitors actually lost shoes in the mess! |
| Layers of crushed gravel, 2-3 inches deep, have made the muddy field much more walkable for humans. |
| The second phase involved the huge muddy area near the back gates. |
| James and Laine shovel more gravel to cover the sloppy mess. |
| Up in a corner, near the second entrance, was a really bad mud pit. |
| See what a difference the gravel makes! |
| We have also worked on a messy spot on the far side of the ditch. |
| The gravel makes it easier for humans to walk around the fence line. And Bodhi says it keeps his paws cleaner. |
