In July of 2008, local Boy Scout Troop 477 asked if they could help out at the park. It was the beginning of a beautiful relationship and one that has brought many positive changes to our park.
The Scouts brought in donated railroad ties to line the main seating areas and help contain the wood chips we spread periodically to keep down the awful dust.
You can see the new railroad ties, which made a big difference in the appearance and maintenance of the play area.
Boy Scouts raked tons of leaves and debris to clear room for RR ties.
At the end of a long, hard day, Boy Scouts leave the park better than they found it.
The first visitors to enter after the Scouts left were very impressed!
Also, in 2008, a loyal park visitor passed away. In honor of the quiet spot where Stan Rice liked to sit and watch his furry grandchildren, Stan's family donated three lovely benches. We now call this area "Stan's Spot."
It wasn't all good news in '08. That Fall, vandals destroyed most of the seating we had in the park. We suspect that bored kids were hanging out in the park after dark, drinking beer and smoking cigarettes (and leaving plenty of trash for us to pick up each morning).
